Frequently Asked Questions

Q. My child has a Sight for Students gift certificate but it has expired. What do I do?
A. Please contact the partnering organization where you originally obtained the certificate to get an updated form. VSP doctors will not honor expired certificates.

Q. Can my child use a gift certificate for an exam only and then later in the year get another certificate for glasses?
A. No. Families are issued one gift certificate per child in a 12-month period.

Q. My child used a Sight for Students gift certificate several months ago and now the glasses are broken/lost. Can I get a new pair of glasses?
A. A child can only receive one pair of glasses in a 12 month period.

Q. How much longer will this program be offered?
A. VSP remains firmly committed to Sight for Students and doesn't foresee any change in its commitment to the program.

Q. Can you give me names of other organizations that help children because I have a child that needs glasses but doesn't qualify under your program?
A. You can check with your local Lions Club or Vision USA, a program of the American Optometric Association.

Q. My child has insurance that covers only the examination. Would s/he qualify for glasses under Sight for Students?
A. No. If the child has coverage for a portion of vision insurance, s/he would not qualify for assistance through Sight for Students.

Q. I know of a child that would benefit from this program. How can s/he get referred?
A. Use our "Find a Partner" search engine to locate the nearest partnering organization.
