Julio
Julio
Vargas has been wearing glasses for two years. He has
an extreme case of farsightedness and astigmatism.
This means that the has trouble seeing things
up close and when he does the shapes are
distorted. Being such, reading, playing ball and drawing
can be difficult tasks without the help
of his glasses. Until
this year, Julio's family was able to receive
financial aid through the Medi-Cal
program. This assistance paid for his expensive prescription and exams. However, this year was a challenge. His family no longer
qualified for government assistance and his mother's wages was not
enough to cover the costs of Julio's vision care.
When Julio's
eye doctor, Leslie Busby OD scheduled his annual eye exam, he learned
of Julio's situation and knew Sight for Student could help. He called
VSP to find out where Julio could go to get the forms he needed
to participate in the Sight for Students program and was referred
to the Boys & Girls Club of Sacramento. The Boys & Girls
club was able to send Julio and his mother, Annajulia the forms
they needed.
Julio now has
a new pair of glasses with a current prescription. He can continue
to do well in school and enjoy the same activities other nine-year
olds do. Vision is not a handicap for him due to the help of Sight
for Students, Dr. Busby and the Boys & Girls Club.
